What will I learn?

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  1. Identify key presenting features of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and how to distinguish this clinically from other pelvic and gynaecological conditions;
  2. Recognise which clinical investigations and laboratory tests to perform in suspected PID;
  3. Recognise when a patient requires referral for specialist in-patient management;
  4. Select appropriate initial anti-microbial therapy;
  5. Describe bacterial causes of PID;
  6. Give appropriate information to patients diagnosed with PID regarding treatment, partner notification and sexual abstinence and deal with questions about fertility concerns
